BIODIVERSITY PROTECTION

Our forests are home to over 400 birds and approximately 150 mammals. Our operations are based in the beautiful Santa Marta region, flanked by the Sierra Nevada Mountains, one of the most biodiverse regions in the World. In this area, beautiful Caribbean beaches and snow-capped mountain peaks are only a few miles apart and bird-watchers love the region for its many endemic species of birds.

To sustain the natural richness of our region, we are always conscious of preventing loss of flora and fauna in our areas of operation, which is home to more than 400 bird species and 154 types of mammals.

Where our plantations border waterways, we maintain buffer zones of a minimum of 30 metres. In addition, we have set aside or restored more than 10% of our land to create wildlife corridors, which allow animals to roam through our plantations undisturbed. Where deemed necessary, we have set aside more than 40% of the total farmland.

“Over 32 square kilometres of wildlife corridors in our plantations.”
